Hi, my name is Beckie, and before working with me many of my clients felt stuck and held back from their potential. Some felt trapped in the past, because no matter how many different things they tried, they always found themselves back to the start. That long winding path in front of them, that just seems to get longer and longer with every corner they turn. It doesn’t have to be this way; I truly believe that everyone can make the changes that they want to make.
It’s hard, I understand. It can feel impossible, like we are at a constant battle with ourselves. You might even feel torn- like you’re being pulled in two different directions. One part of you knows that you need to do something, because it’s stopping you living your life. That other part of you is like a force pulling you in the other direction. It might be telling you to give up because it’s too hard, or it feels too unsafe, you might even fear who you will be without it. The good news is that it's just our bodies way of protecting us. So, to break this negative cycle, we just need to work a little differently.
Achieving our goals doesn’t have to feel impossible. We just need to work in a way that works with us, and not against us. A way that focuses on solutions and moving forwards, and that’s where hypnotherapy is extremely powerful. Hypnotherapy is a gentle process; it’s done in a way which creates lasting results and doesn’t put any superficial plasters over wounds. We use baby steps, to work with our unconscious brain (the part that keeps us safe and stores every experience we’ve had). I am a Gold Standard Therapist, which means my clients are firmly at the centre of my therapy business. I don’t use off the shelf materials; I prepare individual treatment plans and personalised sessions to help you work towards your goal. It’s important for me to continually develop my knowledge and skillset, not only so I have more than enough tools in my toolbox to help you achieve your goals in the most effective way. But also, so I can give you a greater variety of techniques to continue to use after our work together has finished.
You may be asking why hypnotherapy? There was a time when I did ask the same question. I didn’t know anything about it, my only knowledge was what I saw on TV, which seemed very staged. However, when I began to understand the science behind it and how our minds worked, I knew that this was something I wanted to learn more about. It was like a light bulb moment for me, it made sense. I first encountered hypnotherapy when studying to be a counsellor, my first year consisted of hypnotherapy which was initially something I was not interested in, as I thought hypnotherapy was spiritual and a bit of a gimmick. I couldn’t have been more wrong, and I fell in love with it. I saw the changes that people could achieve and realised that this was the therapy that I wanted to train in and enhanced my skills and knowledge.
It explained why we do what we do- even sometimes when it’s not helpful such as anxiety, drugs, or comfort eating. These are things we learn, and they become habitual, but it’s our bodies way of keeping us safe. Once I was able to understand this, I was able to look at things from a different perspective and realised a lot of things we do that originally served a purpose, we can later begin to outgrow. After all, we deal with things in the best way we know at the time.
It also made me realise we have a lot more control over ourselves than I originally thought the key is having an understanding on how to approach these situations. This the beauty of hypnotherapy when compared to other therapies because it focuses on the positive solutions rather than the negativity of a problem.
